Green Forests Work Earthrise Feature
See the news story Earthrise, highlighting the tree planting methods and foundation goals behind Green Forests Work’s ongoing efforts to counteract the lasting effects of mountaintop coal mining in Appalachia through reforestation.This show draws attention to transforming devastated “moonscapes” into productive forest ecosystems. Using native “pioneer” species, which return nutrients and nitrogen to the soil for other plants and wildlife to follow, and other innovative approaches, there is hope for the successful restoration of both the ecological and economic vitality of the region through the continued efforts of the Green Forest Works.
