BELLA GAIA’s unprecedented audiovisual performance comes to San Francisco Herbst Theatre December 17, 2015. Artfully combining NASA satellite imagery of Earth, time-lapsed nature photography, and cultural heritage imagery timed to a live performance of music and dance, BELLA GAIA has been called a “new form of experiential portal… making a deeper connection with our beautiful planet” (Examiner).
Co-hosted by the (American Geophysical Union) AGU, the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP), Future Earth, and in celebration of IGBP’s anniversary, the show is at the intersection of science, inspiration and art.
“BELLA GAIA shows you how humans and nature are connected, and how art and science can work together. It’s an exploration of the relationship between human civilization and earth’s ecosystems through time and space,” says Kenji Williams, BELLA GAIA Founder and Artistic Director.
The performance will be followed by an informative and engaging panel moderated by BBC journalist Gaia Vince, and will include Astronaut John Grunsfeld, Bella Gaia founder/director/composer Kenji Williams, AGU President Dr. Margaret Leinen, Prof. James P M Syvitski, Chair of IGBP,and Future Earth Hub Director Josh Tewksbury.
