5 Gyres Institute in Discussion: The Universe’s Plastic Planet Called Earth

Plastic that was designed to never degrade or be reused is now taking over our planet. The Baum Foundation supports the work of the 5 Gyres Institute in their effort to raise awareness of the impact of plastic pollution on the ocean’s ecosystems.

On March 25^th, 5 Gyres Institute Executive Director and Co-founder Anna Cummins joins other leaders from the field in discussion on the effects of plastic in the environment across the world.  Hosted by Ann Clark, Environment and Natural Resources Forum Chair at the Commonwealth Club of California, the discussion will include Besty Rosenberg, the creator and Producer of The Green Front/Progressive Radio Network; Paul Tasner, the cofounder and CEO of Pulp Works; and Beth Terry, the Author of Plastic-Free: How I Kicked the Plastic Habit and You Can Too.

The discussion will be held at the Commonwealth Club of California’s location at 555 Post Street in San Francisco at 5:30pm PST.

For decades throughout the world, plastic and plastic materials designed to last forever have entered our lives and the worldwide environments in which we live. Plastic is everywhere from plastic bags and wrappings to plastic toys, furniture, household and manufactured items that we buy, use and throw into mountains of non-disposable, non-destructible and non-reducible man-made trash. Today worldwide landfills, oceans, dump sites and beaches are already packed with plastic products that contain large and microscopic particles – polluting earth, ground and air sources and resources. Join our speakers in the discussion of the worldwide use of non-destructible plastic that pollutes our environments and our lives with trillions of tons of manufactured plastic that are sold, used and discarded throughout the world and will not go away.
